President outlines plan during energy and climate forum.
The White House has announced a series of actions intended to help hasten the global transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy technologies.
President Biden held a virtual meeting with global leaders through the Major Economics Forum on Energy and Climate. During opening remarks, he said that his administration was proposing initiatives to “maximize efficiency and reduce emissions across the energy, transportation, and agriculture sectors.” He said the program was made more urgent following the invasion of Ukraine by Russia.
“We cannot afford to let the critical goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius slip out of our reach, and the science tells us that the window for action is rapidly narrowing,” said President Biden. “Glasgow was just a kick-off for a decade of ambition, action, and innovation.”
The administration initiatives focus on four areas. The so-called energy pathway will focus on boosting energy security, reducing dependence on Russian gas, bringing down gas and energy prices, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
“A critical point is that these actions are part of our transition to a clean and secure long-term energy future. And the good news is climate security and energy security go hand in hand,” President Biden said.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the president and his administration to seek wise and godly counsel as they pursue climate transition policies.
- For Energy Secretary Granholm to look to the Lord for discernment in facilitating energy goals.
- For U.S. officials to consider both the benefits and drawbacks of accelerated energy transition.
